Surgent Spring Regatta - April 2, 2006
by George Surgent
We had a great turnout. Ten schooners with a couple of Skipjacks
thrown in just for fun. That made for a total of twelve captains
in all. Dave Querin traveled the farthest coming from Ohio with
his Sharpie. Speaking of Sharpies, four new ones (Tom Younger,
Richard Rogers, Al Suydam and Buck McClellan) made their debut bringing
the total to six, including mine. Ed Gera brought his newest bugeye
model of the Brown Smith and Jones. Herb Jones, Marty Hayes and Mike
Summers rounded out the field of schooners. Len Addiss and Butch
Garren were the Skipjack sailors.
The weather was beautiful with light and variable winds . A few
of the Sharpies managed to plane briefly, always a thrill. A good
turnout of first mates added to the fun and made for another outstanding
lunch . During lunch a brief discussion of schooner class
rules was led by Al Suydam concerning static judging at the upcoming
Vintage Watercraft Regatta. We will try and get something out on
these changes soon. The afternoon finished out with more racing,
seven races in all.

Calvert Marine Museum Regatta - May 21, 2006
by George Surgent
It was a beautiful day at CMM. Plenty of sun and more than enough
wind. If the sharpies weren't planing they were on their sides.
Five schooners made the event. ( Marty Hayes and #8 VIVIAN, Herb
Jones #00 MISS PEG, Al Suydam #22 sharpie, Ed Gera no# terrapin
sharpie, George Surgent#777 BAY BOY) We had eight races in all.
Al Suydam dominated the first five races until he ripped the clew
out of his mainsail while hoisting it from the water, Ouch! Al was
on his way to an otherwise perfect day. Herb Jones took the honors
with consistent sailing through out the day. As usual a great lunch
was served under the light house. Racing resumed after lunch with
continued high winds.

Jones Regatta - July 30, 2006
by Herb Jones
Kent Wells bought Marty Hayes' NY 50. He also has a smaller "America"
that was built by Doug Bremmer. Kent sailed the "America" too.
Ed and Elsie Gera brought a few friends from the Havre de Grace Museum.
Ed had problems with his Sharpie but his friend sailed Ed's Bugeye.
Marty's batteries went bad so we just did some fun sailing. Winds were
light to moderate that favored "Miss Peg". Got hot in the afternoon,
so we sat around and yacked some and called it a day. Nice fun day.
