I got a steel mounting bracket with my EVs, so I've been using that 
(pictures of the latest setup will be posted this weekend). But, your 
wood/hose clamp setup will work just fine as well.

As far as chain tension, I simply placed the assembly in the right 
position and then drilled some holes to bolt it in place.  You don't 
really need tension adjustment for chains when placed correctly the 
first time.

For "belt" tensioning, I used Steve Tyng's basic approach where the 
mounting block is attached to a hinge and a wedge is used to swing the 
motor out until the proper tension is achieved.  Just remember to use a 
screw to keep the wedge in the right place or it may work itself loose 
during a battle.
